Mounting the Motor

Motor Support

Johannes welded the motor support for me today. Thanks, man! I marked the holes and I will drill and mount it on Sunday. The kids will be at a party, so I can tinker a bit.

I also received the motor coupler yesterday. After heating it, it would slip nicely onto the motor shaft thanks to the very convincing strokes of a rubber hammer. I couldn’t resist and just had to bolt on the clutch.

I also had a bit of time to look into the mechanics of the controller. The electronics are pretty much finished. The mechanical side is almost more important though because a loose connection or interrupted heat bridge will potentially blow up the entire controller. The picture shows the power stage, soldered (or shall I say “welded”) with a 300W iron… .

Mounting the Motor – Motoreinbau

YAY! Today, I was able to mount the motor. I am still using the wodden spacer and some shims instead of the final rubber bumpers, but it’s great to see that all the measurments were correct, and the motor is turning just fine.

JUHUU.

Another perspective from below the rear. There is plenty of space for all the remaining parts. Everything is very clean and simple. Nice. (Thanks for the hint, yes, the squar pipe is bent and needs spacers inside).

Rigging up some jump start wires to check basic setup – yes, it turns!

Controller

Today I had a few minutes to assemble the controller. All resistance measurements went well. I hope I will have time to hook it up tomorrow.

Heute habe ich den Fahrtenregler zuendegebastelt. All Widerstandsmessungen sind soweit OK.

SUCCESS – VOLLER ERFOLG

I just drove the first few meters! What e feeling! Granted, someone still has to sit in the back to turn the speed pot, and I have only a single 12V battery connected to the motor, but nevertheless, the car drove under its own electric power. I am thrilled!

New Parts – Mehr Teile

After a nice vacation in Switzerland, I received new parts over the last few days. I got some wiring (welding supply) and the DC/DC converter, 3 chargers at 48V 5A. Hopefully I will be able to mount and connect the batteries this week.
